McGraw Bagnoli Architects wins AIA DC Award for Conceptual Design

McGraw Bagnoli was awarded an AIA DC Design Award for the Green Machine project, a theoretical investigation into the reuse of the Detroit-Superior Bridge, which currently serves as major traffic artery connecting Downtown Cleveland and Historic Ohio City. The re-envisioned bridge would maintain the upper level transportation use while modifying the abandoned street car line in the bridges interstitial space to create a living machine that purifies water from the Cuyahoga River to grow produce in “guerilla gardens” and a hydroponic farm. A dynamic intervention, the Green Machine encourages social and ecological dialogue and the transformation of antiquated infrastructure into productive urban landscapes.
