StudioMB’s award for the adaptive reuse of this historic structure damaged in the 2011 earthquake was one of three winners by the office in the AIA Northern Virginia Chapter’s 2020 Design Awards program.  The Houston based jury noted their appreciation for the team’s decision to allow the raw character of the existing structure to show through, emphasizing the response was “materially rich” which nicely juxtaposed existing details against the more modern elements inserted into the historic structure.
