StudioMB was happy to be selected to present our recent efforts at real-word implementation of resilient solutions to the impact of climate change on our region. For Washington, situated in a topographical bowl, resiliency often centers on rising sea levels and the waterfront. The city’s challenge is to grapple with more frequent and intense storms while development along the water’s edge continues to accelerate. The District is not alone with this challenge; the majority of the world’s metropolises are located along the water with more people than ever living in urban areas, and all indicators show that this migration trend is continuing. At the same time, sea levels are rising and the frequency of storms and natural disasters is increasing. During the session we were joined by Ehlert Bryan engineers as we highlighted ways the DC waterfront is being designed to be less vulnerable without sacrificing design excellence.
