This competition, co-sponsored by AIA DC and Washingtonian Magazine, recognizes excellence in residential design throughout the Washington metropolitan region. It’s a tough one to win, so we were ecstatic our conversion of this venerable structure (which suffered significant structural damage in the earthquake of 2011) into 8 new Co-Living units was recognized by the jury for our clear efforts to differentiate what is new and what was existing. One of many adapted churches submitted, the jury chose ours as the most exemplary adaptive reuse and was thrilled with the attention to both old and new details, citing the project as an exemplary effort to meet the ongoing demands for housing in our city.
