StudioMB’s David C. Bagnoli and Jenna Bolino, together with Wayne Bryan of Ehlert Bryan Structural Engineers recently led a session that explored the technical, design, and construction challenges of building the new Fish Market while maintaining full operation of the existing barges during and after the construction of The Wharf. The packed room of over 100 persons learned how this incredible transformation has brought new life to the Fish Market. Topics covered included the long history of the oldest continually operating fish market in the US, our approach to the design of the site and structures as well as the range of technical difficulties encountered including working on an existing relieving platform, in a floodplain, under and around an active US DOT Interstate Highway, with close to no permeable ground surfaces while maintaining public and service access to the water side barges.
